Queensland will be strongly represented in the Women in Resources National Awards (WIRNA) following the presentation of the QRC/Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) Resources Awards for Women on 8 March.
The awards were presented at the QRC/WIMARQ International Women’s Day Breakfast in front of a state-wide audience of about 900 people in eight locations from Brisbane to Weipa, Mount Isa to Moranbah.
Almost 600 people attended the Brisbane event, which was webcast live to regional centres.
Event sponsorship by BHP Billiton enabled the presence of keynote speaker Turia Pitt, who received a standing ovation.
This year’s Exceptional Woman in Queensland Resources is Hastings Deering’s Karen Alexander. She is a successful Everest climber, former Telstra Business Woman of the Year finalist, and a 30-year resources sector veteran.
The awards were presented by Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Grace Grace, Queensland Resources Council (QRC) President Rag Udd and Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) Chair Maria Joyce.
