New Year, New Opportunities: Setting Yourself Up for Success in 2026

As the calendar turns, the New Year offers a fresh start. A chance to reflect, reset, and set meaningful goals for the months ahead. For women and allies in Queensland’s resources sector, it’s also a time to celebrate achievements, acknowledge challenges, and plan for personal and professional growth.

1. Reflect and Celebrate

Before setting new goals, take a moment to look back. What did you achieve in 2025? What challenges did you overcome? Celebrate your wins; big and small and acknowledge the lessons learned along the way.

2. Set SMART, Values-Aligned Goals

Rather than vague resolutions, set goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). Align your goals with your values and what truly matters to you – whether it’s career progression, wellbeing, learning a new skill, or building stronger connections.

3. Break It Down and Make a Plan

Big goals can feel overwhelming. Break them into smaller, manageable steps, and schedule time in your calendar to work towards them. Find an accountability partner; someone who can encourage you and celebrate your progress.

4. Prioritise Self-Care and Support Networks

Success isn’t just about ticking off achievements, it’s about feeling fulfilled and supported. Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine, and lean on your network of colleagues, friends, and mentors. Remember, progress is more important than perfection.

5. Embrace Your Unique Strengths

The resources sector is changing, and your voice matters. Bring your authentic self to work, seek out opportunities for growth, and don’t be afraid to lead in your own way. Your perspective, resilience, and determination are powerful assets for our industry’s future.

Here’s to a year of growth, connection, and success together. Happy New Year from all of us at WIMARQ!
